Yesterday, United Airlines announced to a number of travel agencies (total number unknown) that they were terminating the agency’s rights and access to process credit card transactions using United’s credit card merchant program. At this time, Travel and Transport has NOT been notified that this action will be imposed on T&T or our customers. We are working with United to try and find out more details and we have also contacted both of our GDS partners to get their stance on United’s positioning.
As you may recall, a number of years ago, Northwest Airlines tried to lead a similar airline initiative and it ultimately failed. Each of these initiatives, if successful, will ultimately result in significant increased costs to the consumer. In addition to T&T pursuing this issue and our actions on our clients' behalf, it is important that you as a large buyer of airline tickets reach out to your airline contacts and express your concern on this matter.
As Travel and Transport is able to obtain more information, we will notify you immediately.
